Antimicrobial activity screening of rhizosphere soil bacteria from tomato and genome-based analysis of their antimicrobial biosynthetic potential

Abstract Background Tomato plant growth is frequently hampered by a high susceptibility to pests and diseases. Traditional chemical control causes serious impact on both the environment human health. Therefore, seeking environment-friendly cost-effective green methods in agricultural production becomes crucial nowadays. Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) can promote through biological activity. Their use considered be promising sustainable approach for crop growth. Moreover, vast number of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) secondary metabolite are being revealed PGPR, which helps find potential anti-microbial activities tomato disease control. Results We isolated 181 Bacillus -like strains from healthy tomato, rhizosphere soil, tissues. In vitro antagonistic assays that 34 have antimicrobial activity against Erwinia carotovora , Pseudomonas syringae; Rhizoctonia solani ; Botrytis cinerea Verticillium dahliae Phytophthora infestans . The genomes 10 Paenibacillus with good were sequenced. Via genome mining approaches, we identified 120 BGCs encoding NRPs, PKs-NRPs, PKs, terpenes bacteriocins, including known compounds such as fengycin, surfactin, bacillibactin, subtilin, etc. addition, several novel identified. discovered NRPs PKs-NRPs species highly conserved well various variants. Conclusions This study highlights great varieties strains. These findings pave road future usage biocontrol agents resource arsenal discovery.
